Jammu, Oct 27 (IANS) Security forces on Monday foiled a major attempt to smuggle drugs from across the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu district, recovering two bags dropped by a Pakistani drone containing over 5 kg of heroin worth over Rs 25 crore.
The recovery was made near Jatinder border post in RS Pura sector of the International Border during a joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
A search operation was launched around 6 am after Pakistani drones were spotted hovering over Indian territory.
Officials said two bags containing 10 packets of heroin weighing 5.3 kg were seized during the operation.
Due to the recovery of such a huge quantity of heroin, a major smuggling attempt from Pakistan was foiled.
Security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police are carrying out aggressive counter-terrorism operations targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs) and supporters.
The revised strategy aims to eliminate the entire ecosystem of terror in the Union Territory rather than just chasing gun-wielding terrorists.
Drug trafficking and hawala money rackets are also under the radar of security forces, as it is believed that the money generated from these illegal activities is ultimately used to sustain terrorism.
Jammu and Kashmir has a 740 km long Line of Control (LOC) and a 240 km long international border. The Army guards the LOC while the BSF guards the international border.
The LoC is located in Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts of Kashmir Valley and Poonch, Rajouri and partly in Jammu district of Jammu division.
The international border is located in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu division.
Anti-terrorist operations are conducted in the hinterland by security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, while anti-infiltration and counter-terrorism operations are conducted by the Army and BSF along the border.
