Chandigarh, Oct 27 (IANS) Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij on Monday reacted to the incident in which 50 youth from Haryana were shackled and deported from the US, saying those who had gone to the US via the “donkey route” had not traveled by authorized means. However, Vij said, “If people are being deported, the process should be done in a humane manner. It doesn’t matter how they are deported, they are human beings and they have human rights.”

He said that the government has made a policy to take strict action against the agents who send people abroad illegally and pointed out that the government aims to ensure justice for those youth and prevent such incidents in future.

At least 54 Indian citizens were deported from the US on charges of entering the country illegally, including 50 from Haryana. Officials said the deportees arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday night by flight OAE-4767.

Responding to the deportation, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said he was aware of the issue.

He said, “I have repeatedly said that this route is not safe for our youth. We want them to get education, develop skills and go abroad through legal channels. The government provides assistance in obtaining passports and visas for legitimate travel.”

Commenting on the ongoing protests over SIR, Minister Vij said, “If the Election Commission is setting its records in order, it is a good exercise. If some people are registered at places where they should not be, then the action of the Election Commission is a commendable democratic exercise.”

On RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s statement that his government would “throw the Waqf Bill in the dustbin” if voted to power, Vij said, “Tejashwi Yadav does not understand his position. No state assembly can repeal a law passed by Parliament. To say that a law passed by Parliament will be thrown in the dustbin is an insult to Parliament.”

Responding to Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed’s demand for a Muslim Chief Minister in Bihar, Vij said, ‘Anyone can make the demand, but only the person who gets the majority of the public can become the Chief Minister.’

Vij, a veteran MLA known for his accurate political predictions during the Haryana elections, also predicted that “the NDA will win the Bihar elections by a huge margin, and the NDA will form the government there too.”
