Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 27 (IANS) BJP Kerala chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday said controversies were being deliberately created to cover up the proposed visit of football legend Lionel Messi, the alleged fraud involving the Argentina football team and the Sabarimala gold scam.
Chandrashekhar said that some people with criminal background have now entered the media sector and are trying to manipulate public opinion.
“Some criminals have entered the media sector and such forces will be dealt with sternly,” he said.
Rejecting all the allegations leveled against him, the BJP leader said there was “not an iota of truth” in the allegations.
He said, “Whatever is being said about me is not factual. The company mentioned in these allegations, BPL, has already issued a clear statement clarifying the matter.”
Chandrashekhar said that he has been the target of baseless campaigns for some time and those spreading lies will be held accountable.
He said, “I have been facing such allegations for some time now. Those who spread lies will not escape legal consequences. If anyone believes that they can target me through false propaganda, they are wrong.”
Terming the controversy as “a larger pattern of deceit”, Chandrashekhar pointed to previous allegations related to Sabarimala and ecclesiastical issues.
“We have seen the Sabarimala scam, the Exylogic controversy and now the so-called Messi fraud,” he said.
The former Union minister stressed that Kerala needs a “political and media clean-up” to restore public confidence.
He said, “Our aim is to ensure political purification in Kerala. And if in that process we have to clean up the corrupt elements in the media, then we are ready for that too. Cleanliness of politics and media is necessary.”
The comments come amid a growing political storm over the alleged scam surrounding the Argentina team’s proposed visit to Kerala.
