Agartala, October 26 (IANS) Three people, including a girl, were killed and another seriously injured in a head-on collision between two speeding motorcycles in Tripura. Police gave this information on Sunday.
The accident occurred at Charilam on National Highway-8 in Sepahijala district late Saturday night when two speeding bikes collided head-on, a police officer said. There were two riders on each two-wheeler.
Quoting local residents, the police officer said that the collision was so severe that people came out of their homes due to the loud noise.
They found two damaged motorcycles lying on the road and bodies of three youths, including a tribal girl, scattered nearby. Local people immediately informed Bishramganj and Vishalgarh fire services.
Fire brigade personnel from Bishalgarh reached the spot and took the injured and dead bodies to Bishalgarh sub-divisional hospital. One of the injured was taken to the hospital by local residents in a private vehicle. A police team led by Vishalgarh police station sub-inspector Rammohan Debbarma reached the spot soon after the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Indrajit Das (28), Rakesh Debbarma (23) and Risha Debbarma (18). Another youth, identified as Titan Das, was seriously injured and referred to the government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala.
Due to this accident, there was a severe traffic jam on the national highway for some time.
The same stretch of the highway has seen several fatal accidents in recent months, police said. A few days ago, another youth had died after being crushed by a bus early in the morning at the same place.
Local residents have expressed concern over frequent accidents and urged the authorities to install proper speed-control measures and warning signs on this accident-prone stretch of the national highway to prevent further loss of life and property.
