New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) With the Chhath Mahaparva festival approaching, the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government is making all-out efforts to decorate the ghats along the Yamuna river, for easy and convenient flow of devotees during the four-day festival.
BJP MP from North-East Delhi Manoj Tiwari on Thursday visited Wazirabad Chhath Ghat in his constituency and participated in the cleaning campaign.
He also inspected the ghat routes, cleanliness drive and preparations for hassle-free gathering of ‘Chhath Vratis’ on river banks.
The BJP MLA shared his photographs while performing ‘Shramdaan’ at the Wazirabad Chhath Ghat and called upon volunteers and workers to participate in the cleanliness drive as it was a collective responsibility to ensure a clean, safe ghat for the devotees.
He wrote in a post, “Today I inspected Ram Ghat in Wazirabad of my Lok Sabha constituency and participated in Shramdaan at Chhath Ghat. On this occasion, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh ji, Timarpur MLA Surya Prakash Khatri ji, District President UK Choudhary ji and many workers were present.”
He further said that the state government, as well as the Centre, is working to ensure that ‘Chhath vratis’ do not face any problem while visiting the ghats.
In the Chhath Puja starting from October 25, devotees will observe strict rituals, fasts and gather at the Yamuna Ghats in the morning and evening to offer Arghya to Lord Surya.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in a review meeting recently, directed party MPs, MLAs, councilors and public representatives of the party to participate in the cleanliness drive at the ghats in their areas where Chhath Puja will be held.
Notably, Chhath Puja is one of the most important Hindu festivals, celebrated mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Dedicated to the worship of Lord Surya (Surya Dev) and his sister Chhathi Maiya, this festival emphasizes on purity, gratitude and the well-being of one’s family.
