Bengaluru, October 23 (IANS) Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain, a close aide of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, has said that Yatindra Siddaramaiah should avoid making premature statements.
He said this in reaction to the statement of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son, MLC Yatindra Siddaramaiah – in which he had said that his father is in the last phase of his political career and PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi is his successor.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, MLA Iqbal Hussain said, “Yatindra Siddaramaiah should not issue such statements. He belongs to a family which has high prestige and highest position in the state. He should not make such immature comments. There is no substance in his comments. I request him not to create confusion among us.”
Hussain said, “Our leaders are capable of addressing matters related to leadership. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself is very active and will take decisions when needed. Yatindra should not go above the level of issuing statements on leadership.”
When asked why no action was taken against Yatindra despite the party earlier issuing him a notice for commenting on leadership and similar statements, MLA Hussain sarcastically remarked, “Only my actions seem answerable. If I do something, it becomes a big issue. I hope Yatindra Siddaramaiah will correct his mistakes.”
Responding to the controversy, State Home Minister G Parameshwara said that Yatindra’s statement was given keeping ideology in mind. Parameshwara said, “He has said that Minister Satish Jarkiholi will follow the ideological path of his father. Many people may not know that Minister Satish Jarkiholi played a major role in organizing the AHINDA group.”
It is noteworthy that ‘Ahinda’ is a socio-political term which is mainly used in Karnataka. It is an acronym in Kannada that stands for ‘Alpasankhayatru’ (minority), ‘Hindulida Jaatigalu’ (backward class among Hindus), and ‘Dalitaru’ (Dalit). The term was popularized by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to represent the political and social alliance of minorities, backward classes and Dalits – communities that together form a significant portion of Karnataka’s population.
Parameshwara further said, “Since Minister Satish Jarkiholi was involved in the Ahinda movement, his name was proposed by Yatindra. The statement was not intended to indicate anything about the leadership. There is nothing wrong in it.”
Commenting on Yatindra’s remarks, Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil said, “Minister Satish Jarkiholi has all the qualities to become the Chief Minister. This may be the last term of CM Siddaramaiah, but his leadership will be important for the 2028 assembly elections. Siddaramaiah is a leader of backward classes and a mass leader. Minister Satish Jarkiholi has consistently raised his voice for SC, ST, backward classes and minorities and their Is one. One day he is worthy of becoming the Chief Minister. However, the decision on the post of CM will be taken by the party and the high command.
Excise Minister RB Timmapur said that at present there is no discussion of change in the Chief Minister. He said, “If a new CM has to be elected, he should be elected in the Congress Legislature Party meeting. Yatindra’s statement is personal and I do not know in what background he has given it. His opinion does not reflect the stand of the AICC or the Congress Legislature Party.”
In a major development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, recently said that his father is “at the end of his political career”. He further said that at this critical juncture, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi will take the lead in guiding those who follow scientific and progressive thought.
These statements have assumed significance amid speculations about a possible leadership change and discussions about a power-sharing agreement in Karnataka.
Yatindra said, “Today, my father is at the end of his political life. He is in the last phase of his political career. At this time, for those adopting scientific and progressive ideas, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi will take the responsibility and provide leadership.”
Yatindra said, “Minister Satish Jarkiholi will play a leading role in showing the way to all those who believe in the ideology of the Congress Party. I am confident that he will set an example in this regard. It is rare to find a leader committed to the ideology. Minister Satish Jarkiholi has taken that responsibility, and I request him to continue his work in this direction.”
