Gandhinagar, October 23 (IANS) Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a newly constructed residential complex for assembly members (MLAs) in Gandhinagar on the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj.
The project, developed by the Roads and Buildings Department of the state government, is spread over 28,576 square meters in Sector 17 and replaces the earlier residences, offering modern, spacious and well-furnished housing units.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Assembly Speaker Shankar Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi and Deputy Speaker Jetha Ahir and other senior officials and dignitaries were present at the inauguration.
Each unit has a 3BHK layout – an office with a waiting area, a servant room, a kitchen, dining room, a living room with a balcony, a dressing room and two toilets, covering a carpet area of 170.32 square metres. All the flats are fully furnished and equipped with two lifts per block.
The complex has many modern amenities, including a large garden, multipurpose hall with a capacity of 300 persons, community hall, gymnasium, swimming pool, canteen/dining hall, indoor games facilities, medical clinic and provision store. Adequate parking is provided, with two allotted parking slots per unit (one in the basement and one on the ground floor), and all internal roads are paved in RCC.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Catch the Rain” and water conservation initiatives, the campus has rainwater harvesting structures, and 600 new trees have been planted across the campus to support environmental sustainability. The project also considers future housing needs: out of 216 units in 12 blocks, 180 units are furnished with stationary and loose furniture, while 36 units have only stationary furniture.
The modern complex marks a significant upgrade from the earlier MLA housing, which consisted of one-bedroom units constructed in 1970–71 and two-bedroom flats constructed in Sector 21 in 1990–91.
After the inauguration, Amit Shah inspected the complex and expressed satisfaction over its state-of-the-art facilities. Gandhinagar Mayor Meira Patel, local MLA, BJP city president Ashish Dave, Municipal Corporation councillor, senior department officials and administrative staff were also present at the function.
