Kolkata, October 23 (IANS) A man has been arrested for attacking a female nurse in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. Police gave this information on Thursday.
The incident took place at Kaijuli Block Primary Health Center (BPHC) located in Mohammad Bazar area on Wednesday evening.
The accused was identified as Rajib Kahar.
According to the police, the incident occurred when the nurse was returning home after completing her work at BPHC.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Kahar entered the primary health center and started demanding several medicines from the nurse and later suddenly attacked her with stones.
The accused kept hitting him on the head, after which the local people reached the spot and caught the youth.
Later the officials of Mohammad Bazar police station arrested the accused.
The victim was identified as Reena Mandal. He has been admitted to Suri Super Specialty Hospital, where he received 22 stitches on his head.
“The nurse suffered serious head injuries. She required 22 stitches. The accused has been arrested. Investigation is underway to find out why the accused attacked the female nurse,” said a senior Birbhum district police officer. The incident spread sensation in the area.
A few days ago, a female doctor was assaulted at Uluberia Sarat Chandra Chatterjee Medical College and Hospital in Howrah district.
At the time of the attack, the female junior doctor was working in the maternity ward.
The incident drew widespread condemnation, including from West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose.
The junior doctor alleged that one of the attackers twisted his hand while the other allegedly slapped his neck. It is alleged that some people of the group even threatened to rape and kill her. Later the ward nurse and other staff saved him from the attackers.
The junior doctor lodged a written complaint at Uluberia police station, after which four accused, including a traffic home guard, were arrested.
