Patna, Oct 22 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday flaunted his government’s two-decade-long development record during an election rally in the RJD supremo’s home district Gopalganj and launched a scathing attack on former Union minister and former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family.

Addressing a large gathering, Nitish Kumar said that before 2005, Bihar was in the grip of fear and anarchy, but in the last 20 years, the state has seen unprecedented progress under his leadership.

The Chief Minister said, “Before 2005, people were afraid to step out of their homes after sunset. But today Bihar is safe, developed and moving forward. The state has completely changed.”

Listing the major achievements of his government, Nitish Kumar highlighted that more than five lakh teachers have been appointed to strengthen the education sector.

He said that in the health sector, several new medical colleges have been established to improve access to health care across the state.

The Chief Minister also mentioned key welfare initiatives, including free electricity up to 125 units for households, increase in old age pension and various schemes to empower women through employment.

He said, “Today Bihar has the highest number of women in the police force compared to any other state in the country. We have ensured participation of women in every field.”

Nitish Kumar stressed that his government works for all communities without any discrimination, citing its efforts in building boundary walls for temples as well as fencing Muslim cemeteries.

“Earlier, politics was based on the Hindu-Muslim divide. We have ended it. Our work is for everyone – irrespective of caste or religion,” he said.

During his speech, Nitish also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, acknowledging his support for Bihar’s ongoing development projects.

The Chief Minister commented, “Prime Minister Modi has done important work for the development of Bihar. Together we are ensuring that the state’s development continues.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Nitish Kumar addressed rallies in Muzaffarpur, where he also detailed the achievements of the NDA government in education, infrastructure and welfare ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
