stephen colbert Wasted no time in attacking Trump on Tuesday White House Ballroom Project.
Demolition on the eastern wing of the US President’s residence began on Monday itself. Dismantling the facade built in 1902 To make room for Trump’s $250 million, 90,000-square-foot ballroom.
This comes after Trump promised in july That his ballroom construction “will not interfere with the existing building.”
“It will be near it but not touching it. And completely respectful of the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of,” he told reporters in a clip shared by Colbert. The Late Show.
“So, that was a lie,” the host said.

quoted from a wall street journal In the article, Colbert said, “Someone in his administration is clearly smart enough to know how bad this looks, because the Treasury Department is right next to the demolition, and Treasury has now told its staff not to share any photos of the construction.”
Colbert said, “Typically that’s not something you would direct when you’re proud of what’s happening.”
The 61-year-old late-night host called Trump’s destruction of the White House “extremely disturbing” and joked, “We’re not giving them the security deposit back.”

The East Wing, built in 1902 and given a second floor in 1942 under then-President Franklin Roosevelt, traditionally houses the office of the First Lady and other parts of the White House, including the White House Travel Office and the White House Military Office.
It is also located above the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, a World War II-era bomb shelter built for Roosevelt that was used by then-Vice President Dick Cheney during the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on September 11, 2001.
News of the demolition work was met with scorn from critics, one of whom argued that the President was “doing more damage to the White House than the British did in 1814.”
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote on Monday: “Completely separate from the White House, the East Wing is being completely modernized as part of this process, and when it is completed it will be more beautiful than ever!”

Trump also reminded followers that the project is being “privately funded by many generous patriots, great American companies, and yours truly.”
Last week, the president told donors at a fundraising dinner for the ballroom that the project was funded with the help of donations from a number of companies, including Apple, Amazon, Lockheed Martin and Coinbase.
He said the new ballroom would seat 650 people – more than three times the capacity of the East Room.
