Kolkata, Oct 21 (IANS) The father of a second-year law student of South Kolkata Law College (New Complex), who was allegedly raped inside the college campus earlier this year, on Tuesday said the victim has transferred to another college affiliated to Calcutta University.
The victim’s father said that last week the formalities for admission in her new college were completed.
“She will resume classes after the current festival holidays are over. The name of the new college has not been shared for privacy and security purposes,” he said.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University, Santa Dutta, confirmed the transfer and underlined the importance of the student pursuing her studies in a new setting.
“I personally met him and promised him all support so that he can pursue his academic career in the coming days,” Dutta said.
This incident happened on the night of 25 June. Last week, a Kolkata court had released one of the accused persons, college guard Pinaki Banerjee, on bail.
While the victim had earlier portrayed him as the “lone helpless” witness, investigators later identified him as one of the accused persons, who was reportedly a silent spectator when the attack took place inside the guard room.
The other three accused Monojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay are still in judicial custody.
Mishra, a contractual worker and alumnus of the college, has been named as the main culprit. Ahmed and Mukhopadhyay have been accused as masterminds of the crime.
Mishra reportedly had a criminal background, which the college authorities allegedly ignored while appointing him on contract basis.
All three accused were allegedly associated with the student wing of Trinamool Congress.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions over campus security and administrative accountability.
