Bengaluru, October 21 (IANS) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has said that there has been no response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the release of funds for Bengaluru city.
He was speaking after inaugurating white-topping and integrated road development works in Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Shivakumar said, “When Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to inaugurate the Namma Metro Yellow Line, I had requested Rs 1.5 lakh crore for the development of the city. I had highlighted that after Mumbai, Bengaluru contributes the highest tax revenue. But till now there has been no response from him.”
Criticizing Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya without naming him, he said, “The government has decided to build a 113-km-long elevated corridor in the city. In the first phase, we are planning to build a 40-km-long tunnel road. But a particular MP – whom I will call an ’empty box’ – is only tweeting criticism without any contribution.”
He announced, “Five MPs were elected from Bengaluru. Nirmala Sitharaman is the Union Finance Minister. If even one of these MPs has brought even Rs 10 worth of funds for Karnataka, I will humbly accept any punishment on behalf of the people.”
“During Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister, under the JNNURM scheme, we used to get funds for everything. Today’s MPs have not submitted a single project proposal.”
Has even one of them met the Prime Minister to discuss these issues? The contribution of BJP MPs in Karnataka is zero. Rajya Sabha MP Lahar Singh met me today, and I asked him to ask the Center to provide appropriate grants for Bengaluru – a city that contributes a lot to the nation,” he said.
“Bangaloreans are great – they pay the highest taxes. But when it comes to voting, participation is low. In the future, this has to change. The Congress government must remain in power because only then can real change happen in people’s lives. We do not do politics with emotions, but with people’s lives,” he said.
“Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has brought revolutionary changes in the health sector of Karnataka – changes that no other health minister has brought. In the next election, he will have to win by at least 25,000 votes. I have the right to speak about the people of Gandhi Nagar because I am one of them. I have studied here since 1981, grew up as a student leader, and know every nook and cranny of this constituency. Hundreds of my friends here Are.”
He said, “Since 1999, the people of Gandhi Nagar have been electing Dinesh Gundu Rao. But in the last election the voters did an injustice to themselves. He should have won by at least 25,000 votes for his public service. He is bearing the burden of a small stain, but is working unitedly with the community for the development of the constituency. The people of Gandhi Nagar are lucky to have him as their MLA.”
“Under the leadership of ministers Krishna Byre Gowda and Priyank Kharge, we are releasing property rights to people living in slums and tandas. Protecting people’s property is the sixth guarantee of the Congress government,” he said.
“In the past, only ‘B’ account documents were given, due to which people could not get loans from banks. Now, we have taken a historic decision to give ‘A’ account to everyone. When the central government saw this work, they called our officials and appreciated us – saying this is model work for the entire country,” he said.
