Chandigarh, Oct 21 (IANS) Punjab BJP working president Ashwini Sharma on Tuesday thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for sending 1,000 quintals of seeds to farmers affected by floods in the state.

Welcoming the decision of the Uttar Pradesh government, Sharma said that when devastating floods hit Punjab, fields were submerged and farmers were left without seeds, CM Adityanath, motivated by concern for their plight, took a compassionate step.

Under social responsibility and humanitarian spirit, Uttar Pradesh government decided to send 1,000 quintals of high quality wheat seeds to help the farmers of Punjab.

These seeds will be distributed free of cost, enabling affected farmers to resume farming and rebuild their livelihoods.

Sharma said the wheat seeds sent by CM Adityanath are of “BB-327” variety, which is a disease-resistant, bio-fortified and nutrient-rich variety that matures in just 155 days and can yield up to 80 quintals per hectare.

He said that this variety will greatly benefit the farmers of the state.

He also said that in a program organized in Delhi, State Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian had shared details of the damage caused by the floods and the shortage of seeds, after which Chief Minister Adityanath took this quick decision.

“This step not only reflects the sensitivity and foresight of the government towards farmers, but also sets a remarkable example of humanity and inter-state cooperation – where compassion transcends boundaries to share the pain of farmers,” Sharma said in a statement.

He also said that by sending these seeds, the Uttar Pradesh government has strengthened the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he visited the flood-affected areas to provide all possible assistance from the Centre.

“This clearly shows that the BJP stands strongly with every disaster-affected citizen of Punjab, be it through relief material, financial assistance or rehabilitation efforts.”

Sharma concluded by saying, “Together, we will empower our farmers, make them self-reliant and bring prosperity.”
