Raipur, October 21 (IANS) In an emotional show of respect and support, the Chhattisgarh government has appointed Sneha Giripunje, wife of late Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Giripunje, as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on compassionate grounds.
He has been conditionally posted at Chandrakhuri Police Training Academy, with nine conditions attached to his appointment.
The official order was issued recently.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai’s cabinet had earlier taken this decision in recognition of the sacrifice of ASP Giripunje during the anti-Naxal operation in Sukma district.
Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Giripunje was martyred on June 9 while on foot patrolling in the Maoist-affected area. He was attempting to stop Maoist activity during the Bharat Bandh called by CPI (Maoist) when he became the victim of a pressure-activated IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blast.
He was immediately taken to the hospital but he died.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Sayeed have expressed deep grief over his demise.
His death is the first martyrdom of a senior police officer in Chhattisgarh since 2009, when then Superintendent of Police Vinod Choubey was killed in a Maoist attack in Rajnandgaon.
The appointment of Sneha Giripunje as DSP has been treated as a special case, indicating the government’s commitment to support the families of martyrs.
The appointment includes standard conditions for compassionate appointment: compulsory training, medical and character verification, and adherence to service rules including contributory pension scheme.
A bond must be signed before joining, and failure to complete training may result in termination or reimbursement of training expenses.
In a recent interview, Sneha shared her inspiration for joining the police force. She said, “I could have chosen another department, but I chose police. This is the department I understand best. He never saw me as weak. I accept all challenges. The uniform will always keep Saheb close to me.”
