Chris Woakes has issued a warning to the England captain ben stokes About bowling too much during ash In Australia this winter.

Stokes leads his England team to Australia for a tough five-Test series leading up to the Ashes in November to see if they can win the Ashes for the first time since 2010/11.

Woakes was initially expected to be selected for the tour, but he injured his shoulder during England’s final Test of the summer against India – which they lost by only six runs – effectively ending his chances for a call up.

The 36-year-old has since announced his retirement from international cricket and given his views on the upcoming series.

“I was hoping that I would get the nod to be picked for the tour, obviously the shoulder thing happens and then you realize that was never actually going to happen,” Vox told The Overlap. Betfair’s Stick to Cricket Show.

“Before this, I was hoping to join the team and be part of another journey. I think this is the best opportunity the boys have had since 2010/11, so it would have been great to be a part of it.”

The podcast is hosted by cricket legends David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, Phil ‘Tuffers’ Tufnell and former England captains Alastair Cook and Michael Vaughan.

While discussing this year’s Ashes series, Woakes revealed that he believes England’s fast bowlers will be the key to a successful tour, provided Stokes does not bowl too many long spells.

Woakes explained: “England have to keep everyone fit in some way, shape or form. It’s not just fit and, on the park, it’s not tired, not tired – thinking about someone playing all five Tests is going to be hard work.

“We saw last summer, Gus (Atkinson), by the end of the summer, was probably just down a little bit. It was his first full testing summer, so it’s going to be a little bit out of him.

“You want these guys to be fresh, so if they play three or four, if you win one game you feel we can win the series here. You go in with your core guys and don’t win a Test match – a lot of planning goes into it.

“I think it’s important to have Joff (Jofra Archer) or Woody (Mark Wood) playing Test matches all the time.”

On Stokes specifically, Woakes said: “As an England fan, I don’t want Stokes bowling long, bad overs. That’s what you don’t want – but you need someone who can do that. Maybe it is.” Gus Atkinson Who can bowl long spells.”

Vokes also believes that England has developed ‘baseball’ – a term used to describe play in a positive manner – and is more tactical.

He said, “The team seems to be building in the right direction over the last few years. We haven’t been able to get over the line in the last few series, so I can see why there are still doubts in people’s minds.”

“We drew 2-2 with both Australia and India at home and you’d love to think we would have won either of those series. It feels like the team has evolved a bit.

“It feels like the team has evolved to know the best way to play. It’s still using an attacking approach, but is able to withstand pressure when needed, whereas before it was like ‘attacking is the only way’.

“In the beginning, it was all about thinking ‘how aggressive can we make our zones’. Now it has changed to how we can work on situations, work situationally, figure out who is on the other end and figure it out.

“Ben (Stokes) always wants to be on the front foot, be aggressive as a captain and set more aggressive fields. But I think now there’s more of a tactical side to how he goes about it, a bit more of a thought process.”

Stick to Cricket is released weekly, starring Michael Vaughan, Sir Alistair Cook, David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd and Phil ‘Tuffers’ Tufnell with special guests.
