Hyderabad, October 21 (IANS) At least 47 people were injured during Diwali celebrations in Hyderabad and outskirts.
Doctors at the government-run Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Mehdipatnam said 47 people, including 20 children, have been brought to the hospital since Monday night.
According to Afreen Khader, assistant professor at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, 18 people came to the hospital with serious injuries, while others had minor injuries.
Most of them were sent home after first aid, while the seriously injured were admitted.
A team of seven doctors treated the injured. While some people were injured while bursting crackers, others were hit by firecrackers lit near them.
Some of the injured people in different parts of the city and outskirts approached private hospitals for treatment.
Doctors have advised people to take all precautions while bursting crackers to protect themselves from injury.
Meanwhile, incidents of fire were reported at four places in Hyderabad during Diwali celebrations. Although there were no casualties in these accidents, there was huge damage to property.
The fire broke out in a function hall on Jambagh Road under Sultan Bazar police station limits in the heart of the city. Fire engines reached the spot and brought the fire under control. The decoration material kept in the premises was burnt to ashes.
Another incident of fire was reported from Begumbazar area. A fire broke out in an apartment near a firecracker shop. Firefighters brought the fire under control.
A fire broke out in a scrap warehouse in Bahadurpura area. Three fire tenders reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Two cars were also burnt in the incident.
Another incident of fire came to light in Mangalhat area. A fire broke out in a kite making unit due to burning crackers. Kites and the materials used to make kites were burnt to ashes.
Officials said that in all the incidents the fires were caused by firecrackers. Police have registered the case and started investigation.
