Hyderabad, October 20 (IANS) Telangana Endowments and Forest Minister Konda Surekha on Monday met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, days after the police started searching for his sacked OSD on extortion charges, causing a storm in the ruling Congress.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud took Surekha and her husband Konda Murali to the Chief Minister’s residence in an attempt to defuse the tension created by the arrival of a police team at the Minister’s house in search of OSD N Sumanth and the anger of the Minister’s daughter Sushmita against the Chief Minister and some senior leaders.
The deputy CM and state Congress chief took Surekha and her husband to the Chief Minister’s residence to wish them Diwali.
The AICC had taken a serious view of the incident that took place at Surekha’s residence in Hyderabad on the night of October 15, when a police team arrived there to arrest Sumanth, whose contract as the minister’s OSD was terminated by the government following allegations that he had threatened the management of a cement factory with a gun to extort money.
Surekha’s daughter Sushmita had refused to let the police team enter the house and asked them to show the arrest warrant. He had a heated argument with the police officers present in plain clothes.
Sumanth, who was present in the house, reportedly left in a car with the minister.
Speaking to media persons, Sushmita had alleged that the case was registered against Sumant to target her parents. He made serious allegations against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, his advisor Vem Narendra Reddy and Revenue Minister P. Srinivas Reddy. She alleged that her parents were being targeted because they belonged to a backward caste.
It is alleged that Sumanth threatened an officer with a gun for extortion. The incident reportedly took place in Huzurnagar, the constituency of Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.
However, Sushmita said that when she questioned Chief Minister’s advisor Vem Narendra Reddy, he said that Uttam Kumar Reddy had filed a complaint, but the minister denied filing any complaint.
He claimed that the Chief Minister’s close aide Rohin Reddy was also present at the meeting with the cement company and wanted to know why no action was taken against him.
Sushmita expressed apprehension that those behind the conspiracy may try to force Sumanth to give a statement that he had threatened the cement firm employee at the behest of his parents.
Surekha had also alleged that efforts were being made to create problems for her.
Embarrassed by this episode, AICC intervened and directed both Minister Surekha and her daughter not to talk to the media.
