Karnataka BJP accuses state government of ‘misusing’ caste census for vote bank politics

Bengaluru, Oct 20 (IANS) The Karnataka BJP on Monday accused the state government of allegedly “misusing” the caste census for vote bank politics.

Opposition leader R Ashok said that not all people have participated in the caste survey being conducted. Ashok said, “Since Sudha Murthy of Infosys did not provide information for the caste survey, CM Siddaramaiah and Minister Shivraj Tangdagi have threatened her. The government itself is creating a nuisance here. Although the High Court has said that providing information depends on the will of the people, the government is violating it and showing hooliganism. Conducting the caste survey itself is illegal, and giving threats like this is another illegality.”

He claimed that it is wrong to reveal what Sudha Murthy has written in the survey form, and he also said that the High Court has said that no one’s information should be revealed and confidentiality should be maintained. They are also threatening teachers and officials.

Earlier, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Shivraj Tangdagi had criticized Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy for refusing to participate in the state’s Social and Educational Survey, sometimes called the “caste survey”.

Ashok alleged that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was criticizing entrepreneurs, adding that he gives moral lessons if the roads are not good. He said, “When Mohan Das Pai and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw raise questions, he criticizes them. Saying that they have got everything from Bengaluru, neither CM Siddaramaiah nor DK Shivakumar built and developed this city. People who pay taxes also have the right to question.”

He said that the government has spent Rs 2000 crore to fill potholes on the roads, but the results are not visible.

He also claimed that when there are floods, an all-party meeting should have been called, adding that without holding a meeting and contacting the central government, the state government is saying that no relief is being provided.

“The central government has already released relief as per the rules,” he claimed.

He also said that there is no evidence that the then former CM Jagadish Shettar had issued an order to ban programs of outside organizations on the school premises.

He said, “This was not discussed in the cabinet of the then BJP-led government. This is an order related to a school in Chamarajpet. The present government has applied it to everything and issued orders. If there is any order signed by Jagadish Shettar or the then ministers, let them disclose it.”

Ashok said that the discussion at the government level regarding the path of RSS has taken place 100 years after the RSS came into existence.

He said, “The problem which was not there for so many years has come now. In Chamarajpet, Bengaluru, Namaz is offered on the road every Friday. Doesn’t this cause traffic problems? Roads remain closed during Ramzan, Eid Milad. No one takes permission then. At some places, swords are used in processions to celebrate. They are not considered weapons. No one has ever been harmed in the RSS’s Path Sanchalan.”
