Kolkata, Oct 20 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday extended Diwali greetings and urged people to maintain unity and communal harmony across the country.

“Wishing everyone a very happy Diwali! May the light of lamps and the spirit of this festival bring happiness, peace and prosperity to all and inspire unity and harmony in our communities,” the chief minister said in a social media post on Monday morning.

While greeting people on an occasion in recent days, the Chief Minister was focusing on socio-political issues like communal harmony and linguistic unity. These themes are always woven into the social media messages of iconic personalities of West Bengal while paying tribute to them.

His greeting message on Monday on the occasion of Diwali, which also coincides with Kali Puja, was no different.

Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP state president and party’s Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya had also tried to convey a subtle socio-political message through Kali Puja wishes. He said that in today’s time of tired life and burdened mind, Goddess Kali incarnates as a savior.

Bhattacharya said in his social media message, “When life becomes weary, mind becomes overburdened – then it is Mother who is our courage, strength and shelter. On this auspicious day, in the light of Maa Shyama’s compassion, may all inauspiciousness, all darkness go away. May auspicious thoughts, peace and light awaken in every soul.”

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari also posted Kali Puja and Diwali greetings on Monday. He sought blessings of Goddess Kali to overcome obstacles in life.

“May Maa Kali grant you courage to face all challenges and overcome all obstacles in your life. Best wishes to you and your family on the auspicious occasion of Kali Puja,” the official said.
