New Delhi, October 20 (IANS) Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Monday greeted people on Diwali and expressed hope that dedication and commitment will lead to India’s collective development.
Diwali is known as the festival of lights, which symbolizes the spiritual victory of righteousness over unrighteousness, light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the country, where people light lamps and candles and worship Goddess Lakshmi.
“On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all Indians and friends of India in the country and abroad,” the Vice President said in a statement.
He said, “Diwali celebrates the triumph of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali is the time when the values of generosity, charity and inclusivity, which are so deeply rooted in the ethos of our civilization, become deeply evident when we share and extend our support towards the needy and the deprived sections of society.”
Radhakrishnan further said that this year, as India celebrates Diwali, “let us all leave aside negativity and adharma and embrace positivity and dharma, not only for our individual interest but also for the overall progress of the nation”.
He said, “Like the lamps that collectively illuminate the night sky in every home on this festival, our dedication and commitment marks the beginning of India’s collective development. I pray Goddess Lakshmi to bless you all with peace, prosperity and good health.”
Earlier in the day, President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the countrymen on Diwali and wished happiness and prosperity for all.
“On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all Indians in India and across the world,” President Murmu said in a statement.
He said, “The auspicious occasion of Diwali, celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country, gives the message of mutual affection and brotherhood. On this day, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.”
The President further said that this festival of joy is also an “opportunity for introspection and self-improvement” and “an opportunity to help and support the underprivileged and the needy and bring happiness in their lives”.
“I urge everyone to celebrate Diwali in a safe, responsible and eco-friendly manner. May this Diwali bring happiness, peace and prosperity to all,” she said.
PM Modi also took to social media and extended warm wishes for Diwali.
“Best wishes on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity surround us,” he said in a post on X.
