Hyderabad, Oct 19 (IANS) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday termed the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election as a referendum on the governance, law and order and credibility of the Congress government.

He alleged that in the last two years, the Congress government has stopped major development projects while introducing “bulldozer politics” on the people.

KTR, as the BRS leader is popularly known, urged voters to reject the “theatrics” of the Congress and remember the “420 guarantee” that deceived the public.

KTR warned that if Congress wins the Jubilee Hills seat, it will encourage the government to roll back all the welfare and development programs started under the previous BRS regime. Addressing a meeting at the BRS headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, after welcoming some leaders of other parties who have joined the BRS, he said, “Only if the Congress loses will it feel pressured to fulfill even a fraction of its election promises.”

The former minister remarked that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s rule ushered in an era of “bulldozer rule” and administrative anarchy. He said the Congress government has failed to deliver even a single people-centric program and has instead relied only on publicity and self-promotion.

“Ever since the Congress took power, Hyderabad’s progress and the overall development of Telangana has come to a standstill. This is a result of irresponsible governance and wrong priorities,” he said.

On the issue of reservation for backward classes (BC), KTR accused the Congress of betraying the BC through ill-prepared and legally untenable measures.

“Without proper constitutional basis, the Congress government made hollow declarations which were rejected by the courts. If the Congress and the BJP are truly committed to backward class empowerment, they should demonstrate sincerity by motivating their MPs to pass a bill in Parliament for constitutional amendment. Street plays in Telangana will not serve the purpose,” KTR said.

He further assured that BRS will extend full support in the Rajya Sabha to any genuine effort by the national parties to secure 42 per cent reservation for backward classes through constitutional means.

Referring to the recent controversies involving ministers, KTR said that Congress has turned into a battleground for cabinet commission and internal rivalry.

“From Medaram Jatara functions to tender allotments and bill clearances, Congress ministers are fighting only for personal gains. Despite serious allegations of corruption, neither the Chief Minister nor his cabinet colleagues have responded. When ministers fight for commissions inside cabinet meetings, who is left to rule the state?” He asked question.

KTR also criticized the Congress government’s negligence in the Airport Metro Express and Metro Phase-II projects, saying the Chief Minister had “poured cold water” on the future of Hyderabad. He alleged, “Instead of strengthening public transport and focusing on sustainable development, Revanth Reddy is plowing public money into his so-called ‘Future City’ project – an initiative designed only to increase land values in areas owned by Congress leaders.”

Highlighting the growing discontent across various sectors, KTR said, “Every section of the society—workers, farmers, businessmen and women—has been negatively affected under this regime. It is time to send a strong message to the people. The Jubilee Hills bypoll should be the first corrective step,” he said.
