Chennai, October 18 (IANS) AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami released a commemorative magazine titled “Anna Vazhi Dravidam” (Dravidian Movement in the Footsteps of Anna), which depicts the growth and lasting impact of the Dravidian movement on the political and social fabric of Tamil Nadu.
The special print edition was launched to mark the 54th foundation day of the AIADMK, while the digital edition was released in September to mark the birth anniversary of Dravida Kazhagam founder and ideological pioneer of the movement “Thanathai” Periyar EV Ramasamy.
According to a party release, “Anna Vazhi Dravidam” celebrates the vision of Arignar CN Annadurai (Anna), whose ideals of social justice, equality, rationalism and self-respect transformed Tamil society and inspired successive leaders – including AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran and late Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha is also included.
Speaking at the launch, Palaniswami said that the Dravidian movement envisioned by Anna was “not just an ideology, but a mission for the upliftment of every section of the society.” He reaffirmed that the AIADMK is committed to implementing Anna’s principles “through governance that truly serves the people”.
Conceived as a forum for reflection and analysis, the magazine contains essays and commentaries on the cultural origins, political developments and contemporary relevance of Dravidian thought in shaping the democracy of Tamil Nadu.
It also explores how the philosophical foundations of the movement have influenced governance models and social policy in the state. Party leaders described the publication as both a historical chronicle and an ideological reaffirmation.
“Through this magazine, the AIADMK wishes to remind people that the essence of Anna’s message lies in service, social justice and empowerment,” the statement said.
Thus “Anna Vaazhi Dravidam” stands as a tribute to the enduring Dravidian legacy, bringing Anna’s vision to bear on MGR, Jayalalithaa and now Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s leadership continuum, confirming the AIADMK’s place as the guardian of Dravidian ideals in contemporary Tamil Nadu politics.
