New Delhi, October 18 (IANS) Senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat spoke on the growing tension within the India faction ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. He assured that all issues within the grand alliance will be resolved before the elections.
His comments come in the wake of reports that the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) has fielded its candidates in several assembly seats where the Congress has also announced candidates, causing apparent friction within the alliance.
While the NDA claims that the Bharat alliance will disintegrate as the elections approach, Harish Rawat rejected such speculations and expressed confidence in the unity of the alliance and its collective goal of defeating the BJP.
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement on the decline of Maoism, Rawat acknowledged the seriousness of the issue, saying, “It is true that Maoism once expanded rapidly, but during the UPA government, a special operation was launched. Local forces were trained, and these same forces helped in curbing the Maoist influence.”
He criticized the Prime Minister’s claim that no previous government had cracked down on Maoism, calling it “inappropriate and historically incorrect”.
Reacting to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ comment, Rawat said, “I completely agree that the habit of winning should be maintained – but the habit of lying should be given up.”
The upcoming Bihar Assembly elections are being seen as a major political test for both the India Bloc and the NDA. While NDA leaders are confident of forming the next government in Bihar, parties within the Indian alliance say a wave of change is coming.
However, the alliance has yet to publicly resolve its seat-sharing disputes, and top leaders have remained tight-lipped about internal talks.
The elections will be held in two phases, and the results will be declared on November 14. Prime Minister Modi, along with chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, is set to intensify election campaigning in Bihar next week, which will further intensify the electoral battle.
