Morena, October 18 (IANS) A peon of a private clinic in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district was caught red-handed while posing as a doctor and conducting illegal fetal sex test. Police gave this information on Saturday.
The accused was identified as Sanju Sharma (30), a peon of the District Education Department.
According to the police, the accused along with social worker Meena Sharma were arrested in a joint raid by the health department teams of Gwalior and Morena near Gadora Pura on Jaura Road in Morena city late on Friday night.
Morena Chief Medical and Health Officer Padmesh Upadhyay told media persons on Saturday that the raid was conducted under the direction of Morena District Collector Lokesh Jangid after a secret information.
“A fake woman was sent along with a policeman in plain clothes to trap the accused. The team found Sharma with a portable ultrasound machine and caught him red-handed as soon as he started the procedure,” he said.
Upadhyay further said that a case has been registered at Civil Lines police station and the machine has been seized.
The accused has been handed over to the local area police.
During investigation, the police came to know that the accused person was working as a peon in the District Education Department and was posted in Bilgaon Middle School.
However, Sharma was suspended in November 2024 after he was found involved in illegal activities.
A senior health department official told IANS that the accused was under surveillance for the last six months after he was caught selling a portable ultrasound machine to a person in Jaipur.
The man arrested in Jaipur (Rajasthan) had then told the police that Sharma was conducting illegal fetal sex determination tests. “Since then he was under surveillance and was caught red-handed. Police are investigating further,” the officer said.
It is noteworthy that it is illegal to determine the sex of a fetus for non-medical reasons.
