Jammu and Kashmir: BJP says Devender Rana’s legacy will continue in Nagrota constituency

Jammu, Oct 18 (IANS) BJP leaders on Saturday said the party will continue the legacy of late Devendra Singh Rana through his daughter Devyani Rana in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nagrota assembly constituency.

Devender Singh Rana won from Nagrota for BJP in the 2024 assembly elections. Rana died on October 31, 2024, after which the seat became vacant.

BJP has fielded Devendra Singh Rana’s daughter Devyani Rana for the by-election on Nagrota seat, voting for which will be held on November 11.

After filing nomination papers by BJP candidate Devyani Rana for Nagrota Assembly by-election, BJP organized a large rally of enthusiastic party workers and supporters in Nagrota.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Sat Sharma, leader of opposition Sunil Sharma, general secretaries Sanjita Dogra and Gopal Mahajan, assembly election in-charge and MLA Sham Lal Sharma, and co-in-charge and DDC president Bharat Bhushan, among other senior leaders and MLAs, addressed the rally.

Prabhari District Jammu North Ayodhya Gupta, MLAs Satish Sharma, Yudhvir Sethi, Pawan Gupta, Ch Vikram Randhawa, Kuldeep Dubey, Mohan Lal Bhagat, Surinder Bhagat, Arvind Gupta, Baldev Raj Sharma, and other senior leaders also shared the day in the rally.

Addressing the gathering, Sat Sharma said that BJP is fully committed to the overall development and progress of Nagrota constituency and socio-economic upliftment of every individual of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP has transformed the governance structure of Jammu and Kashmir by bringing transparency, empowerment and fast-paced development.

He said that Nagrota holds a special place in the vision of our progress and BJP will ensure that no developmental project remains incomplete. Sat Sharma also paid tribute to former MLA of Nagrota, late Devender Singh Rana and described him as a true son of this soil, who served the people wholeheartedly and ruled the hearts of the residents of Nagrota.

He said that although he is no longer with us, his dreams and dedication continue through his daughter Devyani Rana, who has inherited the spirit of service.

Sunil Sharma praised Devyani Rana for her determination to carry forward her father’s mission, saying that the people of Nagrota have seen what commitment and compassion means under Devendra Rana’s leadership.

Sunil Sharma said, “Devyani Rana is a symbol of the same honesty and foresight and BJP stands firmly with her.”

Another BJP leader Sham Lal Sharma assured the people that the BJP government is working tirelessly for every section of the society. He said that development, empowerment and respect for all are our guiding principles. He said Devyani Rana’s leadership will ensure that the constituency gets the attention and development it truly deserves.

Bharat Bhushan said that under the Modi government, historic reforms have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir and the BJP is committed to building a prosperous and inclusive future.

He urged the people to strengthen the hands of BJP for a strong Nagrota and a strong Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Devyani Rana emotionally thanked the party leadership and people for their immense support while expressing her commitment to carry forward the legacy of late Devendra Singh Rana.

He said, “My father Devender Singh Rana had a dream of a prosperous, progressive and inclusive Nagrota.

“I promise to complete all their unfinished tasks and serve the people day and night. I will leave no stone unturned to live up to the faith you have shown in me.”

The National Conference (NC) has offered the Nagrota seat to the Congress to field an NC-backed candidate.
