Mysuru, Oct 18 (IANS) Responding to criticism over alleged targeting of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) under the guise of making it mandatory for all private organizations to take permission to organize events in public places, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified that his government is not targeting the RSS.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah said, “What we have done is that all organizations will have to take permission. That rule was made during the tenure of the Jagadish Shettar-led BJP government. We have reiterated it. When the rule was brought during the BJP government, why did they not do anything? Why did they not protest?”
When asked if his government was targeting the RSS, he said, “We are not targeting the RSS. The rule applies to all private organisations. The BJP is always engaged in politics; they do not know anything. They will not work for the poor and do politics.”
Responding to the confusion over the RSS foot march in Kundapur, he said that, as the previous order was issued under the Jagadish Shettar-led BJP government, our government has also issued a similar order. There was no opposition to the order issued by the BJP government. The order does not target any specific organisation.
Instead of considering public interest, BJP has indulged in politics. The police department will ensure that public peace is not disturbed in this matter.
Later, speaking after the silver jubilee celebrations of Mysore University and inaugurating the new Gyan Darshan Bhavan, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called for vigilance against the Sangh Parivar and the RSS, saying they had “opposed” BR Ambedkar’s Constitution in the past and “continue to do so today”.
CM Siddaramaiah praised Ambedkar as a great visionary who used his knowledge to bring about social change. Siddaramaiah said, he studied the society deeply to understand it and then used his knowledge for the betterment of the society throughout his life.
He criticized BJP leaders and Sangh Parivar members for spreading “propaganda” in the name of Ambedkar.
Siddaramaiah said, “They claim that Congress defeated them in the elections, but the truth is that Ambedkar himself had written in his own handwriting that he had lost to Savarkar and Dange.”
He urged the society to “expose” such “lies” of the Sangh Parivar by presenting the truth.
Referring to the incident of shoe being thrown at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, he said that it is proof that vestiges of conservative, casteist and elitist mentality still exist in the society.
Siddaramaiah welcomed the inauguration of the ‘World Scholars Ambedkar Sabha Bhavan’ on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Center for Ambedkar Studies at the University of Mysore.
