Fire breaks out in coach of Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express, no casualty reported

Sirhind (Punjab), October 18 (IANS) A coach of train number 12204 Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express caught fire on Saturday morning, though no casualties were reported, officials said.

The incident took place at Sirhind station in Punjab, which falls under the jurisdiction of Northern Railway zone.

According to officials, after receiving the alert, railway staff, Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local police teams reached the spot.

Fire brigade personnel brought the fire under control after about an hour of effort.

According to railway officials, the fire was detected around 7:30 am on Saturday.

Officials responded quickly by moving passengers to other coaches and extinguishing the flames before they could spread further, officials said.

“As soon as the incident was detected, railway officials immediately took action and shifted the passengers to other coaches and the fire was also immediately extinguished. The train will depart for its destination soon. No casualties. The time of the incident is 7.30 am,” the railways said in an official statement.

The Divisional Railway Manager of Ambala Division will inspect the site during the day.

Investigation is ongoing and more details are awaited.

Train No. 12204 Amritsar – Saharsa Garib Rath Express covers the distance of 1,716 km in approximately 31 hours and 20 mins. The train runs from Amritsar three days a week on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

During its journey between Amritsar and Saharsa, the Garib Rath Express halts at 23 stations, including Beas, Jalandhar City, Phagwara, Dhandari Kalan, Ambala Cantt, Delhi, Hapur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Hardoi, Lucknow NR, Gorakhpur, Deoria Sadar, Siwan, Chhapra, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Dalsingh Sarai, Barauni, Begusarai, Khagaria, and S. Bakhtiyarpur.
