What are the effects on Andrew’s family?
As well as no longer using the title Duke of York, a long-established title gifted to him by his mother Queen Elizabeth II at his wedding to Sarah Ferguson in 1986, Andrew will also give up other titles: Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. He will remain a prince, which he has been entitled to since birth.
Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will also no longer use the title of Duchess of York. Their children, Beatrice and Eugenie, would remain princesses.
Andrew’s chaotic marriage to Ferguson, widely known as Fergie, lasted a decade, although the two remained close, living together in a 30-room mansion near Windsor Castle.
Ferguson herself has been implicated in allegations related to Epstein.
Last month, several charities cut ties with him after British newspapers published an email he allegedly wrote to Epstein, describing him as his “greatest friend”.

Prince Andrew made four additional flights on pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet, documents published just hours after Andrew announced he would stop using his title show.
Flight log shows Andrew flew from Luton to Edinburgh on September 1, 2006, with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as a flight on May 12, 2000, where she was named to travel with Epstein, Maxwell, celebrity chef Adam Perry Lang, a bodyguard, and three others.
Two further flights in 1999 also featured the name “Prince Andrew” along with royal security officer Steve Burgess.

What Epstein-related allegations does Prince Andrew face?
The news that Prince Andrew will step down comes after the release of excerpts from Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s upcoming posthumous memoir, which alleges that she was trafficked by Epstein and had sex with Andrew when she was 17. This memoir is going to be published on Tuesday.
Giuffre died by suicide in April at the age of 41. In the memoir, she detailed alleged encounters with Prince Andrew, whom she sued in 2021.
Andrew denied her claims and said he did not remember meeting her.
It is the latest fall from grace for the 65-year-old prince, who resigned from public life in 2019 over his relationship with Epstein despite denying any wrongdoing.
