liverpool head coach Arne Slott Admits he is well aware of the scrutiny his team faces after three consecutive defeats, but does not believe players are “up at night” worrying about it.
After seven consecutive wins, they lost three more times in the week before the international break.
Slott admits there are both positives and negatives to spending almost two weeks without working with his players, but as they look to avoid losing four matches in a row for the first time since November 2014, he doesn’t think it is having a huge impact on his team.
“These players may need me – but I don’t think they need me – to tell them what’s happened,” he said ahead of the trip to the arch-rivals. Manchester UnitedAgainst whom they are trying to make a club-record of 10 matches without defeat.
“Results don’t lie, if you lose three in a row we have to perform better.
“But I think these players who have experienced so many things, they don’t lie awake at night thinking, ‘Oh, we lost three times.’
“We need to be aware of it and we are aware of it and we need to react to it, but if we win three in a row and Manchester United is on the fixture list then we have to react the same.
“But maybe if you lose three times you’re expecting that spark or one or two percent more, not only from us but also from our fans on Sunday.”
a fortnight without Premier League The action has sparked some heated debate about his recent form, which has been labeled a “crisis” in some circles.
However, Slott knows the harsh scrutiny spotlight will be focused on him again at Anfield on Sunday.
He would have liked the opportunity to fix his blip sooner rather than later, but with many players having performed well for their countries, he will be hoping the change of scenery will have refreshed them.
“I think now everyone’s talking about it again, I don’t know. It’s just the way it is,” he said.
“You can argue that it’s better to keep them and play the next game and then people can’t talk about it for two weeks.
“Now people have been able to talk about it for two weeks.
“What I like about the top players is that if they win three times in a row you don’t notice anything, they don’t feel in the dressing room that they are much better than the rest of the players in the league.
“But the outside world is very focused on results – which we are too. We don’t deny the results, we need to do better – not just because we lost three times, but if you look at 10 games it was exactly the same 10 times.
“We are trying to work every day to widen the gap between us and the teams we face, but that is easier said than done.”
