New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful speech at the NDTV World Summit 2025 held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, declaring that India has moved from silence to delivering a decisive response to terrorism.
Speaking under the summit’s theme, “Edge of the Unknown: Risk, Resolve, Renewal”, PM Modi highlighted Operation Sindoor as a clear example of India’s determined action against cross-border terrorism, drawing thunderous applause from the audience, which included global personalities such as Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. Were.
βThe era of silent India is over,β PM Modi declared. “Now self-reliant India does not remain silent. It gives a befitting reply through surgical strikes, air strikes and Operation Sindoor.”
His remarks made reference to the audacious military operation on May 7, 2025, when Indian forces carried out coordinated strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan’s Punjab province, targeting terror infrastructure linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen. Jointly executed by the Indian Air Force, Indian Navy and Indian Army, Operation Sindoor deployed stand-off precision missiles to destroy several terrorist facilities, neutralizing over 100 operatives.
The operation was a direct retaliation to the devastating attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that claimed 26 lives, underscoring India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.
PM Modi’s address reflects India’s shift from restraint to proactive defense amid rising tensions with Pakistan.
The Prime Minister framed Operation Sindoor as part of a broader strategy following the previous surgical strikes in 2016 and the Balakot airstrike in 2019, which targeted terror camps following the attacks in Uri and Pulwama. He argued that these actions symbolize a new India β confident and determined β that prioritizes national security while promoting regional stability.
The summit, a platform for global discourse, amplified PM Modi’s message, focusing on addressing uncertainty through decisive leadership.
Beyond security, PM Modi highlighted India’s economic resilience amid global turmoil. “Immediately after Covid, conflicts and wars dominated the headlines. But India kept moving forward,” he said, citing an average economic growth rate of 7.8 per cent over the past three years.
He cited recent data, which saw a 7 percent growth in merchandise exports, as evidence of India’s strong trajectory despite the global recession, which was announced just two days ago. He suggested that this economic strength underlines India’s ability to meet security challenges while maintaining progress.
An eclectic mix of policymakers and cultural figures attended the NDTV World Summit, which began on Friday, with Modi’s keynote speech setting an impressive tone. His vision of a self-reliant India, steadfast against terrorism and an economically prosperous India resonated as a clarion call for resolve.
As discussions continue on geopolitics and innovation, PM Modi’s pledge to protect India’s sovereignty while driving growth positions the country as a strong force on the global stage.
