dogs dressed as everything from Elvis Presley Scooby Doo’s Mystery Machine went trick-or-treating in Michigan’s capital on Friday as part of the annual Hallowe’en event hosted by a local pet store.
The costumed dogs made a loop through Lansing’s Old Town arts district, stopping outside restaurants, gift shops and jewelry stores, where owners waited to provide treats and a scratch behind the ears.
Wendy Beck’s dog, Bella, “got full of biscuits” and had to stop on the way for a power nap. It was the 9-year-old Saint Bernard’s first Halloween, but Alicia Towns’ dog, Mojo, is a veteran in many ways.

“There’s a lot of dogs and a lot of people there. You see the sweetest things,” Towns said. ,People Go above and beyond their costumes, and you’ll get it all. It’s amazing.”
Mackenzie Smith-Emmerich was with her pitbull, Sadie, who was dressed as the Kissing Booth Pumpkin.
“It’s something we look forward to all year because it’s something we can do with our dogs that they love so much,” the Lansing resident said. “And they start dressing up, and people pay attention to them.”
This event is organized every year by the Old Town organization Preis Pets. The number of dogs is limited to 200 and their owners must register in advance. This is all part of an effort to keep numbers down for safety’s sake.
Kirby Preece said that Hallowe’en is “fun” and a “pretty cool thing”.
“I think with everything going on in the world right now, we need more joyful events and this is it,” he said.
