East liverpool And Sunderland Striker Fabio Borini has made a surprise return to English football by joining league twoCity of Salford.
The 34-year-old, who is a free agent since leaving sampdoria In the summer, a contract until January is agreed.
He has been training with the men’s first team for the past month and comes in to cover for Jay Bird, who could be out of action for a long period of time due to injury.
Borini said, “It’s been great, I came to train to keep myself fit in this transition between contracts and Salford, the gaffer, Alex Bruce were so kind to allow me to use the facilities here and train.”
“Experience is something I can bring, but it’s not just about the experience I have on the pitch, it’s off the pitch so leading by example in training, external training, how to manage the game.

“I have never played League Two football, so I need to learn the main characteristics of this league from my teammates, but I will bring myself as an open book to my teammates so they can use me, learn from me or help me, so I am very ready for this challenge.
“It’s a challenge I’m accepting and I chose to accept it because I needed real football, something that would warm my heart for football, not for anything else.”
The Italian spent time in the academies of Bologna and Chelsea as a youngster, before enjoying senior spells with Roma, Liverpool, Sunderland and AC Milan.
Borini has scored 16 goals and five assists in 111 Premier League appearances and also has one goal to his name at Wembley, scoring the opener for Sunderland in the 2014 League Cup Final against Manchester City – a game which the Black Cats lost 3–1.
Fabio Borini also has one cap for the Italy national team, which he earned in 2012.
