Kolkata, Oct 17 (IANS) A second-year medical student of a private medical college and hospital in Durgapur in West Bengal’s West Burdwan district, who was raped in a forest area outside the college campus last week, was discharged from the hospital on Friday.
However, he will have to remain present in Durgapur for a few days for the ongoing investigation in the case.
It is not yet certain whether she will stay in the hostel of the medical college or in a rented house in Durgapur.
On Thursday, the victim’s father said that he would soon return to Odisha with his daughter and would never return to West Bengal.
She said that she has requested Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to arrange admission for her daughter in any medical college in Odisha and has also assured all cooperation in the matter.
On Friday, a team of forensic experts again visited the forest area where the alleged rape took place on the night of October 10.
However, state police sources said a detailed investigation was still underway to find out whether the case was one of rape.
Six people, including a student of the same college, have been arrested in this case.
Police have found many contradictions in the statements of the victim’s male friend.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while reacting to the Durgapur rape case, advised women not to go out at night, after which a controversy arose.
She had also claimed that the victim had left the college premises at 12:30 pm, while college authorities had claimed that the victim had left the college at 8 pm on October 10, more than four hours earlier.
