Kolkata, Oct 17 (IANS) The BJP’s West Bengal unit has included its popular media panelists participating in various television debates in a block-level public relations exercise.
The state leadership has advised him to visit various districts of the state from the first week of next month and interact with the local people at the block level and understand their grievances with the administration and the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Also, a BJP state committee member said, these media panelists are also expected to explain to the people what kind of development activities they can expect from the BJP if the party comes to power in the state after the 2025 assembly elections. He will also explain the benefits of having the same party in power both at the Center and in the state.
It is learned that the decision to include media panelists was largely the brainchild of Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav, who the party has appointed as the campaign in-charge for the 2026 assembly elections in the state.
Recently, the state committee member said, Yadav also held a meeting with the party’s media panelists and briefed them about his work in public-access programmes.
“These media panelists are already popular faces among the people due to their regular participation in television debates. Therefore, the party wants to use their popularity for an effective public outreach program ahead of the elections next year,” the state committee member said.
After visiting each district, the state committee member said the respective media panelists would have to report to the state leadership on their findings in large-scale outreach programmes. “Their findings will be important in further determining and sharpening the campaign line,” the state committee member said.
It is learned that large-scale outreach programs by media panelists will begin primarily in the districts of North Bengal as well as in districts with substantial tribal and backward population, given that the BJP enjoys substantial popularity and dedicated vote banks in these areas.
“The focus districts will be areas dominated by the Matua community in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Bankura, Purulia and Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts,” the state committee member said.
