With the most beautiful views of the fjord-like Bay of Kotor, this stylish, 252-room, waterside resort blends impressively with its environment, offering a relaxing stay that is still within easy reach of the fortified town of Kotor.
Place
inside the Dramatic 28 kilometer inlet Located in the sleepy village of Kotor Bay, the Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort Donji StolievTwelve kilometers from Tivat Airport (about thirty minutes transfer, depending on traffic). If you want to explore further, it’s best to rent a car. Private boat charter isn’t cheap, around €80 (£70) per hour, but since it’s the most beautiful way to see the bay, it’s worth spending the money.

stretch
Minimalist, with a cool, natural color scheme and boho design details, such as pool-side beanbags and rattan pendant lights, guests are invited to free their minds as soon as they step through the door. The fact that the narrow coastal road splits the resort in two is no problem: a cleverly designed underground tunnel connects the main hotel accommodation to the property’s private coast and strip of shingle beach, where you’ll find a busy, yet low-key, beach club atmosphere.
Service
For insider information, the concierge service offers recommendations on spots that might be easy to miss (sending us to a fabulous, fishing restaurant in Kotor’s old town), and speed boats can be hired at short notice to take you away from the resort’s private marina. Special requests are met with a smile (at breakfast, my wish for gluten-free bread and a decaffeinated cappuccino with almond milk was answered with ‘no problem’).
bed and bath
With floor-to-ceiling windows, these are rooms that boast incredible views; It is perfect for watching the local swallows swoop and fly at sunrise and sunset. Inspired by nature, great design features include a misty mural of misty mountains behind the beds, and ombre curtains that change from teal to beige. The two- and three-bed deluxe apartments are suitable for families, with large living areas and two bathrooms. In every room, you’ll find toiletries from eco-conscious beauty brand Pharmacopeia. One bug bear was the air conditioning which would intermittently shut off and had to be reset. Although most rooms have only a partial view of the bay, the views of the mountains are also beautiful.

Food and Drink
For casual Mexican-inspired dining waterside, Olé! Beach & Bar is known with a crowd-pleasing menu (think pulled pork tacos and wood-fired pizzas, washed down with a mojito). There’s also the fine-dining Lighthouse Restaurant with spectacular views of the bay, offering coastal dishes like Ink Squid Risotto and Whole Grilled Sea Bass (pair it with the local Raznatovich Chardonnay). The buffet breakfast served at Restaurant Blue is the right side of indulgent, with pastries, smoked salmon, homemade Bircher muesli and all the ingredients for a full English. The only downside was the queue to make your own coffee. Try to get a table in the cool, rooftop ‘room’ for amazing mountain views.

There are two spas (one medical, the other recreational) that offer a wide range of treatments, from an extraordinary hammam experience at Spa Soul to physiotherapy and anti-aging procedures at the therapist-led Vermac Health & Wellbeing Retreat. As well as two main pools (one with a swim-up bar, the other for swimming laps), Spa Sol has an indoor heated pool, where you’ll also find a steam room, sauna and small, though well-equipped, gym. Kayaks and SUPs are available for rent.

There are ramps and lifts throughout the hotel, as well as several adapted rooms.
pet policy
Dogs up to 10 kg are allowed at a cost of €50 per night. Although not allowed at the pool or beach, they are welcome on restaurant terraces.
