On New Year, Indians will be able to send packages anywhere in the country within 24 hours through India Post. Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday, October 17, announced that the new single-day speed delivery will be rolled out across the country by January 2026. The fastest delivery service available at India Post takes three to five days for package delivery.
Apart from speeding delivery, the minister further said that the government-owned postal system will launch guaranteed delivery within 48 hours in metros and state capitals by January 2026.
By March 2026, it will also ensure last-mile product delivery for products on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.
The Postal Department this week resumed all categories of international postal services to the US from October 15, after a nearly two-month suspension on parcel, express mail and other postal consignments in August.
India Post operates 164999 post offices, making it one of the largest postal networks in the world. The government claims that the widespread presence ensures that every village in India has access to a village within 5 km. This means that savings, insurance, government schemes and digital services are accessible to most Indians through India Post.
