Seven Palestinians killed in Israeli firing in Gaza
At least seven Palestinians were killed by Israeli shelling in Gaza yesterday, health officials in the Hamas-run Strip said, as Israel traded blame with Hamas over violations of a US-brokered ceasefire.
According to Reuters, people in Gaza reported seeing drones and warplanes in the skies over the southern Gaza Strip and hearing sporadic gunfire from time to time.
A senior Hamas official yesterday accused Israel of violating the ceasefire by killing at least 24 people in firing since last Friday and said a list of such violations had been submitted to mediators.
“The occupying state is working day and night to undermine the agreement through its violations on the ground,” he said.

Houthi rebels’ chief of staff dies after Israeli airstrike
The chief of staff of Yemen’s army was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting top leaders of Yemen’s Houthi rebels in August, officials said.
The Houthis have acknowledged the killing of Major General Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Ghamri, who was sanctioned by the United Nations for his role in the country’s decade-long war.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that al-Ghamari died of wounds sustained in the attack and that he “joins his fellow members of the axis of evil in the depths of hell”. Mr. Katz referred to the bombing as “the strike of the firstborn,” presumably a reference to the attack by Israel on August 28.
Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and others were killed in that attack. However, analysts suggested that al-Ghamari may have been injured in a separate attack targeting the clandestine group.
PRIME ACKNOWLEDGING ACKNOWLEDGMENT NETAGED ELESOPHED IKLING AL-GARI.
“Another chief of staff has been eliminated from the ranks of terrorist chiefs whose goal was to harm us,” Mr Netanyahu said. “We will reach them all.”

Greta Thunberg claims Israelis kicked her and wrote nonsense on her suitcase.
Greta Thunberg claims she was “hit and kicked” while in Israeli custody after being detained from a Gaza aid flotilla.
The young Swedish activist has accused Israeli guards of having “no empathy or humanity”, recalling seeing dozens of people with handcuffs on their foreheads on the ground, and saying she had to “beg” for water in 40C heat.
Thunberg also claimed that Israeli guards wrote the words “w***” and drew pictures of a penis and a Star of David on her suitcase. Israel has hit back at the activist, claiming her allegations are “ridiculous and baseless.”

Gaza faces environmental crisis after war, report says
Gaza’s water, sanitation and energy systems are on the verge of complete collapse after nearly two years of war.
As residents begin to return following a ceasefire, the area’s environmental damage could make its recovery impossible without urgent action, a new report warns.
Gaza’s ecosystem has been devastated by bombardment, with crop lands and water systems almost completely destroyed, putting 2 million people at risk of an ongoing humanitarian crisis, analysts said.
Thousands of displaced Gazans began returning to their remaining homes after a ceasefire was announced this week between Israel and Hamas.
However, a study released Wednesday by the Arava Institute estimated that 69 percent of Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged. It warned that environmental degradation now threatens public health, food security and regional stability.

Starmer says ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from attending Aston Villa game ‘wrong decision’
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said a ban on supporters of Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv attending his team’s match against Aston Villa is the “wrong decision”.
The move to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from attending yesterday’s Europa League game at Villa Park was taken amid public safety fears.
But Sir Keir has criticized the decision.
He said in a post on X: This is a wrong decision. “We will not tolerate anti-Semitism on our streets.

Trump’s special envoy says hostages’ remains will be returned
US special envoy Steve Witkoff said Washington would pursue the return of the bodies of the dead until they were all handed over to Israel.
“And I’m confident they will all come home,” Mr Witkoff said at an event at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Hamas has so far returned the remains of nine hostages and has yet to hand over the bodies of 19 others under a ceasefire deal brokered by Donald Trump.
Mr Witkoff reiterated that “Hamas clearly has to disarm, and they can have no future in Gaza; there is no future as they have been”.
He said, “Only when extremism ends can prosperity begin. Peace in the region will save countless lives in Israel and Gaza and bring dignity to those who have long suffered.”
Mr. Witkoff said the United States is committed to comprehensively expanding the Abraham Accords.

Hamas is demanding equipment to dig up the bodies of hostages
Hamas reportedly said the return of the remaining dead detainees “may take some time” as some of the bodies were buried inside tunnels destroyed by Israeli forces.
According to Al Jazeera, Hamas said in a statement, “The bodies of Israeli prisoners whom the resistance was able to reach were immediately handed over.”
The Palestinian group has said it needs tools and equipment to clear the debris, which are not currently available due to Israel’s ban on their entry.
“Therefore, responsibility for any delay in the return of bodies falls squarely on the Netanyahu government, which is obstructing and preventing the provision of necessary capacities,” the group said.

Pro-Hamas messages appear as Canadian and US airports are hacked
Hackers took over the public address systems of four airports, three in Canada and one in the US, to broadcast messages praising Hamas and criticizing President Donald Trump.
Kelowna An “advertising streaming service” at Kelowna International Airport in British Columbia was briefly tampered with and shared unauthorized content, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The hackers broadcast messages in a foreign language and music over the PA system at Victoria International Airport in British Columbia, according to an airport spokesperson.
Hackers breached third-party software to access the PA system and the airport switched to an internal system to regain control, the spokesperson said.
The Canadian Center for Cybersecurity is assisting the airport and RCMP with the investigation. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a social media post on Wednesday that hackers took control of the PA system at Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania.
He said the US Federal Aviation Administration and airport officials were investigating the breach.
Hackers also broke into the flight information display screen and public address system at Ontario’s Windsor International Airport on Tuesday evening and displayed “unauthorized images and announcements,” according to airport officials.
According to the airport’s statement, the breach was caused by a “cloud-based software provider” used by the airport, and “our systems returned to normal shortly thereafter.”
