New Delhi, October 17 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come out in defense of Anamika Gautam, wife of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, after the Congress party’s allegations in the case of increase in disproportionate assets.
The Congress, in a press conference, accused Gautam of amassing assets disproportionate to his declared income and described it as a possible case of “large-scale corruption”.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, while addressing the issue on social media platform X, said that Anamika Gautam will present her side before the Lokpal. ,
He stressed that since the matter is sub-judice, public comment would be inappropriate. Malviya also questioned the intentions of the Congress and said that the complainant had not attended the hearing.
“Why the press conference now?” he asked, suggesting that Dubey’s political influence may have destabilized the Gandhi family.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate cited election affidavits and a pending Lokpal complaint in support of the allegations at the press conference.
According to Srinet, Gautam’s wealth is expected to increase from Rs 50 lakh in 2009 to Rs 31.32 crore by 2024. He highlighted discrepancies in financial disclosures, alleging a lack of transparency in growth in both movable and immovable assets.
Shrinate demanded clarification from both BJP and Dubey. He further revealed that a formal complaint was filed with the Lokpal on May 24, 2025 and Dubey was directed to respond within four weeks.
However, he claimed that there is no clarity on whether the reply was submitted or what action was taken thereafter.
“The numbers don’t add up,” he said, urging the Lokpal to act decisively and transparently.
Dubey responded with a cryptic post on X saying, “Maza aa raha hai” (Having fun), thereby fueling the controversy. The BJP has said it will cooperate with the legal proceedings, while the Congress is pressing for accountability.
Since the case is still sub-judice, all eyes are on the Lokpal’s next move, which could determine whether the allegations have merit or are mere political posturing.
The episode underlines the growing use of digital platforms and legal forums in India’s political battles, where asset declarations and public scrutiny are increasingly shaping the narrative.
