Jack Frost may not put that much pressure on your nose in this winter seasonAccording to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration new winter outlook,

Forecasters warned Thursday that it’s going to be a dry and hot year for a wide swath of the United States.

Only the northern states are expected to see cooler and wetter conditions between December and February. However the outlook does not include snowfall or how much precipitation will occur.

“The scenario does not project seasonal snowfall accumulation because snowfall typically cannot be predicted more than a week in advance, and areas that are warmer than normal may still experience cold weather during the season,” NOAA explained,

The forecast across the country is driven by a weak La Niña climate pattern that is expected to persist throughout the year. Typically, this means cooler and wetter weather for North America and dry and warmer weather on the South and East Coast.

More than 61 percent of the West is already in moderate drought conditions, according to US Drought Monitor,

The outlook shows persistent and worsening conditions through the winter from southern Texas to California.

But that’s not the case for the Pacific Northwest, where NOAA’s operational drought leadership says some relief is most likely.

midwest

Wetter than average conditions are expected in the Ohio Valley and southern Great Lakes region, providing some relief from drought.

However, according to the outlook, there is an equal chance of lower or higher average temperatures in the Midwest.

“In Indiana, precipitation is above average,” in Indiana WISHTV.com forecasters said“This does not necessarily guarantee above-average snowfall, as precipitation includes mixed precipitation such as rain, snow and sleet.”
