New Delhi, October 16 (IANS) Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pralhad Joshi said that the state government is trying to ban RSS to hide its failures.
Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday, Minister Joshi said the situation in the state was clearly turning against the Congress government, adding that there was talk of failures of the government at every level, stalled development and discord within the Congress.
He said, “The government has hatched this conspiracy to divert attention from all this. We will see what notice the Karnataka Congress government issues against the RSS. Only after that a decision will be taken. The RSS will first discuss the action taken by the government and then decide on the reaction. After that we will decide our stand.”
He further said that a state minister had written a letter to the Chief Minister regarding RSS and the Chief Minister had also written a letter to the State Secretary.
“They are talking about adopting the Tamil Nadu model. It seems that today Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil raised it in the cabinet meeting and moved towards taking action,” he said.
Highlighting the failures of the government, several senior Congress leaders, including RV Deshpande, Basavaraj Rayareddy and MLA Raju Kage, have openly expressed their dissatisfaction. “To resolve these issues, the state government is taking action against the RSS and trying to divert the issue,” Joshi alleged.
“Last year, when MLAs rebelled against the government, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had promised to release Rs 25 crore for each constituency and additional funds for road development. But where was it given? Money has not been released even to fill potholes,” he claimed.
He said that before coming to power, the government had announced to provide 200 units of free electricity to everyone.
“But later, they added 10 per cent additional charge on usage and cheated the people. Till date, their promise has not been fulfilled. The Supreme Court has clearly directed the government to conduct elections for the BBMP. Apart from allocating some grants there, no money has been released for the development of any other constituency in the state. They have also not paid salaries to the local body employees.”
Meanwhile, the burden of inflation is being passed on to the people, he said. Fees for birth and death certificates have also been increased.
He alleged, “To divert attention from all this, the government is trying to control the RSS and its activities. But the RSS will not bow down to this.”
Earlier, the Karnataka government had decided to make it mandatory for all private organizations to take prior permission from the concerned government authorities before organizing events.
This step has been taken after Minister Priyank Kharge’s demand to ban the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in public places.
