According to the indictment, “A representative of Bolton informed the US Government about the hack in or around July 2021, but did not tell the US Government that the account contained national defense information, including classified information, which Bolton had held in the account since his time as National Security Advisor.”

The allegations appear to cover the period when Bolton was first gathering material for his book about his time in the Trump administration, and Bolton strongly rebuked the allegations against him in a sharp statement Thursday night.
