He initially pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and filing a false police report. On Thursday, Rebecca pleaded not guilty to an amended criminal complaint, KABC However, details of that complaint were not immediately made public.
Emmanuel was first reported missing On August 14, her mother said she was changing her diaper outside a Big 5 sporting goods store in Yucaipa, California, when “she was physically assaulted by an unknown male and knocked unconscious”, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
She said that when she woke up, Emmanuel was gone.

In interviews with LA media the following days, Emmanuel’s mother said that the last words she heard before she was allegedly beaten were a stranger saying “Hola”.
With a black eye, she claimed the family was in the area for another child’s soccer practice and she had gone to the store to buy a mouthguard.
Two days after he was reported missing, the parents sought answers from the public and urged the alleged abductor to “just give our son back.”
According to police, both parents were initially cooperative with authorities, but stopped cooperating after encountering inconsistencies in the mother’s story. Authorities say a massive search was launched but Emmanuel was never found and is now presumed dead.

At a press conference in August, officials said the evidence showed Emmanuel was abused over a long period of time, and they believed the child ultimately died from injuries from the ongoing abuse.
Prosecutors later said that Haro admitted to abusing her infant son between August 5 and August 14, before lying to investigators, according to KTLA.
“He was abused over time,” Riverside County District Attorney Michael Hestrin said at the time. “Both parents may have known about the abuse.”
Court records show Jake Haro was convicted of intentional child cruelty in 2023, following a case in 2018 in which his infant daughter with a previous partner suffered multiple serious injuries, including skull fractures, brain hemorrhage and broken ribs.

Haro and his then-wife Vanessa Avina pleaded guilty to abusing their daughter. In that case, Haro was sentenced to 180 days in the sheriff’s work-release program and ordered to attend a child abuse treatment program.
“He’s still alive today, but he’s permanently bedridden,” Hestrin said of the child at the time. “He has permanent damage – cerebral palsy – which is the result of long-term child abuse.”
However, Rebecca Haro has no known criminal history.
She continues to proclaim her innocence from custody and is being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center, while her husband is at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.
Haro is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 3.
