There is a very tight race for Attorney General. This is one of those posts which very few people outside politics consider important, but within politics it is considered an important post in the state. He is the leading lawyer in the state. That person has a lot of power.

And the Republican candidate in the Virginia race is pitted against a 36-year-old man named Jay Jones. Jay Jones is a former Virginia House representative. And a few years ago, Jay Jones, apparently, became very angry with the leading Republican in the House of Representatives, and he expressed his anger at this man in a text exchange with a woman, an interesting Republican representative. And this is how that text exchange unfolded.

Now, I will read it verbatim and you can decide whether it lacks context or not. So this is Jay Jones, a 36-year-old then-Representative, black man, who is now running for attorney general. And he’s talking to a guy named Todd Gilbert, who is the leading Republican in the Virginia House. And he says about Gilbert, he’s talking to Kerry Conyers, who is a fellow representative, a Republican, he says, “If these guys go before me, if they die before me, I’ll go pee on their graves at their funerals, send them out with a little something.”

To which Kerry Conyers, apparently a decent person, says, “Jay Jones!” And then Jones responds like this. “Three men, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler, and Pol Pot. Gilbert got two bullets in the head. Spoiler.

Put Gilbert and crew up against two of the worst people you know, and he gets both bullets every time. “Victory!” Kerry Conyers says, “Please stop!” Jay says, “Lol okok.” Then she says, “It really bothers me when you talk about hurting people or wishing death on them. It’s not OK, no matter who they are.” So at this point, she calls him, Kerry Conyers calls Jay Jones and says, “I’m really upset by our text exchange.

Is this what you mean? “Do you really wish death on the leading Republican in the House?” And Jay Jones says, “Not only do I wish death for him and his wife, but I wish death for their children as well.” He says so. And we know he says this because he reiterated it in this text exchange that followed their phone conversation. He says—she says this to Jay Jones.

“You weren’t just asking questions and you know it.” Jones: “I really was. I wasn’t attacking you. I was trying to understand your argument.” She says, “You weren’t trying to understand. You were hoping Jennifer Gilbert’s kids would die.”

To which you would expect Jay Jones to say, “I don’t want her kids to die. I was just trying to make a statement,” right? No. Jay Jones says, “Yeah. I want them to die.”

I have told you this earlier also. It is only when people feel the pain personally that they move forward on policy. To which Conyers says, “I asked you more than three times and you figured out that’s what you meant.” I’m honestly asking a lot of questions today. And he writes back in the most candid sentence he’s ever uttered in a private text exchange, “I mean, I think Todd and Jennifer are evil and they’re breeding little fascists.

Yes. I think so. They are evil and they are creating little fascists who deserve to die.” This isn’t one of those text exchanges where you have to guess the context or intent. This is an exchange between two people, one of whom is calling for the murder of children, and the other is trying really hard to talk him out of thinking this out of context here.

“You don’t really mean it, do you, Jay Jones?” “Yes, I mean it. Yes, that’s what I mean.” Now, there are a lot of levels of irony here. The most obvious is that this is a prominent Democrat who wants to be the chief law enforcement officer in a state, who is pro-gun control and is calling for the killing of children. Ok?

And is calling for the murder of children because they belong to adults he doesn’t like. This is African morality. This is Hutu mentality. This is a crime of blood. Nothing is less western than this.
