Itanagar, Oct 16 (IANS) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General KT Paranaik (Retd) on Thursday discussed border connectivity with a top official of the Border Roads Organization (BRO), underlining the important role of a strong road network in strengthening national security.
The Governor and Additional Director General of BRO, Jitendra Prasad discussed enhancing border connectivity at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, ensuring high standards of road construction and addressing strategic infrastructure needs in the border areas.
Lieutenant General Paranaik (Retd) said that well-maintained strategic routes are essential for rapid deployment of armed forces, keeping key corridors open throughout the year and meeting long-term defense infrastructure requirements cost effectively.
Emphasizing the cascading impact of road development, the Governor highlighted that quality roads in the border areas are equally important for socio-economic development.
Better connectivity provides better access to health care, education and markets, he said, helping remote communities integrate with the national mainstream.
Reliable infrastructure also plays an important role during natural disasters, facilitating emergency services and timely relief.
Learning from his own field experiences, the former senior Army officer advised BRO to adopt international standards in construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and tunnels due to the climatic conditions and difficult terrain of Arunachal Pradesh.
He stressed on the use of advanced technologies and skilled manpower to ensure sustainability, efficiency and timely completion of the projects.
The Governor stressed on strict adherence to the rules and cautioned the BRO to remain vigilant on compensation claim issues. Unusual activity will be reported to the concerned Deputy Commissioners and brought to the notice of the state administration.
Lieutenant General Paranayak (Retd) also appreciated the humanitarian efforts of BRO, especially the initiative of setting up a play and learning room for the children of casual laborers engaged in road construction in Tawang, which shows the organisation’s commitment to welfare beyond infrastructure.
Additional Director General, BRO, Prasad assured the Governor of the continued dedication of the organization to provide high quality infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, serving the people of the State and the strategic interests of the nation.
