Guwahati, Oct 16 (IANS) In a major development in the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of Assam cultural icon Zubeen Garg, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced that Singapore Police officials will hold a meeting with the Assam Special Investigation Team (SIT) on October 21.

Taking to social media platform X, Sarma said the meeting marks an important step towards justice for the late singer.

He posted, “Another step towards getting justice for our dear Zubeen. Singapore Police officials will meet the Assam Police team led by ADGP and SIT Chief Shri Munna Gupta on 21st October. Our collective resolve remains – Zubeen will get justice.”

The meeting will take place between Singapore Police officials and the SIT headed by ADGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, who is leading the investigation from Assam.

The discussions are expected to focus on the exchange of key evidence and findings related to Garg’s death, which occurred under mysterious circumstances in Singapore last month.

The Assam government had constituted the SIT immediately after the incident to ensure a comprehensive and transparent investigation.

The team is closely coordinating with Singapore authorities and collecting information from persons associated with Garg’s last days abroad.

Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most famous singers and cultural figures, was found dead in Singapore, sparking grief and anger across the state.

His death sparked widespread protests, including violent demonstrations, in parts of Assam as fans and civil society groups demanded a thorough investigation.

Security has been tightened in several areas following clashes near Baksa prison earlier this week, where protesters had gathered. Police have said that the situation is under control.

The upcoming meeting between Singapore and Assam Police is expected to be crucial in taking the investigation forward and uncovering the circumstances that led to the untimely death of the beloved artiste.
