Srinagar, Oct 16 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district police on Thursday said they have busted a major drug racket in Chadura area and recovered 325 kg of contraband.
“Continuing with its continuous drive against drug trafficking, Budgam Police has intensified its crackdown on narcotics and recovered huge quantity of contraband in Chadoora area,” a police statement said.
Acting on specific information, Chadura police station received a tip-off about three persons – Ghulam Rasool Wani, Mohammad Altaf Wani and GH. Nabi Wani (son of Ghulam Mohammed Wani), resident of Chitru Dangerpora – who allegedly hid a large quantity of ‘Charas (Hashish)’ like substance in his residential house.
A police team from Police Station Chadoora under the supervision of Executive Magistrate First Class searched the said place. During the operation, 27 nylon bags were recovered, containing hashish-like substance weighing approximately 325 kg.
As per due procedure, the banned substance was sealed and confiscated on the spot. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 181/2025 has been registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Chadoora Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
“Budgam Police reiterates its determination to eliminate the drug menace from the society and urges the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to drug trafficking or suspicious activities,” the statement said.
Security forces and police in Jammu and Kashmir are carrying out aggressive counter-terrorist operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), supporters, drug smugglers/traffickers and people involved in hawala money racket.
Security forces believe that the money generated from these illegal operations is ultimately used to maintain terrorism in the Union Territory.
Officials have said, “The revised strategy of the police and security forces aims to eliminate the entire ecosystem of terror instead of focusing only on gun-wielding terrorists.”
While the Army guards the 740-km-long Line of Control (LOC) and the Border Security Force (BSF) guards the 240-km-long international border in Jammu and Kashmir, counter-insurgency operations are carried out by local police and other security forces in the interior.
