Jaisalmer, October 16 (IANS) In a heartbreaking incident in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, four friends were burnt alive when their vehicle caught fire after colliding with a truck. Officials gave this information on Thursday.

The accident happened at around 1.30 am on the Mega Highway near Sada village of Sindhari police station area. A young man was seriously injured in the incident.

According to the police report, five youths from Dabar village of Gudamalani tehsil had gone to Sindhari for work. While returning home late at night, about 30 kilometers away from his destination, his Scorpio car collided with a trailer coming from the front.

The collision was so strong that the vehicle immediately caught fire, trapping the people sitting in it.

The deceased have been identified as Mohan Singh (35), son of Dhud Singh; Shambhu Singh (20), son of Deep Singh; Pancharam (22), son of Loombaram; And Prakash (28) son of Samparam. All four died on the spot due to severe burn injuries.

Driver Dilip Singh miraculously survived but is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The accident caused a massive traffic jam on the busy highway.

Police and rescue teams reached the spot and managed to restore traffic flow by removing the debris after about an hour.

The incident comes just after the Jaisalmer bus fire incident, where 21 passengers lost their lives when a bus caught fire due to an electrical fault.

Recurrence of such deadly vehicle fires in Rajasthan has raised serious concerns over road safety, vehicle maintenance standards and emergency response preparedness.

Local people and families of the victims are demanding intensive checking and strict enforcement of safety norms for both private and commercial vehicles.

As Rajasthan mourns another young life lost too soon, questions about highway safety and accountability loom large once again.
