The case, registered following a complaint by his family, names four people, including late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar’s wife, his brother-in-law and MLA Amit Ratan and two others, under sections related to abetment of suicide, according to CNN-News18.
Officials confirmed that the case has been handed over for detailed investigation to ascertain the circumstances of the ASI’s death and the alleged involvement of those named in the complaint.
Sandeep Lather, 41, was posted in the cyber cell of Rohtak and was found dead on Tuesday, October 14. He allegedly shot himself with his service revolver in a field in Rohtak.
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini met the bereaved family on Wednesday, October 15, and expressed condolences and assured that “action will be taken against whoever is found responsible.”
According to news agency ANI, family members have demanded justice and said that the funeral will not take place “until appropriate action is taken against those named in the video.”

Suicide note and allegations against IPS officer
The ASI left a “last note” and a video in which he made serious allegations against late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who was found dead at his Chandigarh residence on October 7.
In his last message, Lather alleged, “Y Puran Kumar took bribe to remove names of accused from serious cases like murder.”
According to News 18, he further claimed that the IPS officer “rigged transfers and protected corrupt officers by removing honest officers.”
She also alleged that some police personnel “withheld files, called the petitioners and mentally tortured them by demanding money,” and “female police personnel were sexually exploited in return for transfer.”

Accusing Kumar of diverting attention from corruption by “citing caste bias”, Lather said, “This is not a caste issue. The truth should come out. He was corrupt.”
Connection between the two suicides
Lather was not among those who were initially to be questioned in connection with Kumar’s suicide case. Police are now investigating possible links between the two deaths and whether Lather’s allegations indicate a wider network of corruption.
The twin suicides have raised serious concerns within the Haryana Police, prompting a thorough investigation into alleged misconduct with the force.
