Srinagar, October 15 (IANS) Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday attached the property of a drug smuggler/supplier detained under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
“In a major action against drug trafficking, Kulgam police today attached the property of Ghulam Rasool Dar, son of late Abdul Rehman Dar, resident of Widow Mishipora, Police Station Kaimoh, under the provisions of Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985,” a police statement said.
It said that Dar police station Kaimoh is involved in a case FIR number 62/2021 u/s 8/15-29 NDPS Act, in which 520 kg of poppy husk was recovered. Already detained under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in NDPS Act (PIT-NDPS), he is currently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
“The attached assets having a market value of approximately Rs 61 lakh have been identified as illegally acquired from the proceeds of drug trafficking,” the statement said. The attachment order was executed by a police team in the presence of local residents and the Executive Magistrate.” The statement said the action was taken after a detailed investigation conducted by Police Station Kaimoh.
“This action is part of Kulgam Police’s ongoing operation against drug trafficking, aimed at dismantling the narcotics network in the district and curbing its sources of financing.”
The statement said that SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Chaudhary had said that Kulgam Police is committed to completely eliminate the menace of drugs from the society.
“He added that strict action will continue against all persons involved in drug trafficking, including attachment of properties acquired through drug proceeds, to effectively break the drug supply chain and protect the youth from its harmful effects.”
The statement said that the local people of the area have appreciated the efforts of Kulgam Police in taking strict action against drug smugglers and saving the community from the menace of drugs.
It said the Kulgam police has appealed to the general public to cooperate and share information about drug smugglers or related activities, assuring that the identity of those providing information will be kept confidential.
