Mysore, Oct 15 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said he fully supports his minister Priyank Kharge’s remarks on banning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), adding that he is not afraid of threats.

“I am not afraid of threats, and neither is Kharge, who has been receiving threat calls. RSS activities should not be carried out in government premises. Following the Tamil Nadu model, RSS should be banned in Karnataka too, as Kharge has already said,” the Chief Minister told media persons.

Regarding the threat call received by Priyank Kharge and the release of the related audio clip, Siddaramaiah said that instructions have been given to gather information on how the RSS ban was implemented in Tamil Nadu.

“The Chief Secretary has been asked to submit a report, which will be investigated. Kharge will be provided security. Forces with ill intentions will always do such things. Priyank will not be intimidated by these threats and neither will I,” the Chief Minister said.

Meanwhile, senior leader and Congress MLC BK Hariprasad said that this development worries not only Minister Priyank Kharge but all those who are in favor of peace and harmony in the country.

Hariprasad said Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar should call a general body meeting of the party and take a clear stand on the issue.

He said, “Priyank Kharge should not be afraid of threats. The government should ensure his safety. There should be a comprehensive discussion on development in the meeting and decisions should be taken. We will not allow Karnataka to become a state stricken by communal strife and violence. The party and the government should take a decision in this regard soon.”

He said that Karnataka is known for peace, he said that BJP and RSS are adopting every trick to disturb the peace here.

Following the controversy over a letter proposing a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities in public places in Karnataka, the state government has tightened security at the residence of RDPR, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge in Bengaluru.

A platoon of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) has been deployed at his residence amid fears of protests and threat calls.

Responding to the threats being received by Minister Priyank Kharge, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that the government is taking the matter seriously and has ordered an investigation.

On Wednesday, Kharge also released an audio clip of him abusing and threatening over the phone.
